Rockefeller – Western Cape

The Rockefeller, a 278 apartment, 13 storey building, is located smack-bang in the middle of the Cape Town Foreshore.

GeoCiv Group installed a total of 61 no. large diameter CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) piles with sizes varying from 750mm to 1200mm in diameter. The piles were installed through reclaimed land (hydraulically placed sand) overlying in-situ marine sediments largely in the form of silts and sands. A CFA pile type is the perfect piling solution for this profile and strata due to the high risk of sidewall collapses and a shallow water table. Excellent rock sockets within the medium hard Malmesbury bedrock were achieved and specialised concrete pumps were used to pump a total volume of approximately 850m3 through the hollow CFA stems.
